NVIDIA GeForce 610.88 WHQL Fixes Halo, Path of Exile 2, and More

NVIDIA's latest WHQL Game Ready driver addresses crashes on RTX 50 series GPUs in Halo: Campaign Evolved, squashes persistent pauses in Path of Exile 2's DX12 mode, and cleans up several other nagging bugs.

A Beta Becomes a Full Release

NVIDIA pushed out the GeForce 610.88 WHQL Game Ready driver on July 28, completing a two-step process that started last week. As reported by TechPowerUp, the 610.82 Beta that preceded it was a narrowly targeted fix aimed at two specific problems: crashes in Halo: Campaign Evolved on RTX 50 series GPUs running 610.xx drivers, and the maddening intermittent long pauses that Path of Exile 2 players were hitting after extended sessions in DX12 mode. The full WHQL release wraps those fixes into an officially certified package and adds a handful of others besides.

The Path of Exile 2 fix is worth a moment of attention. A commenter on TechPowerUp’s article, citing Path of Exile 2 CEO Jonathan Rogers, claimed that NVIDIA reached out directly to developer GGG and asked them to send over a PC that could reproduce the issue so NVIDIA engineers could examine it firsthand. Whether or not that account is fully accurate, the pause bug tracked as issue 5090018 is now listed as resolved in the official release notes.

What Else Got Fixed

Beyond those headlining repairs, the 610.88 WHQL driver addresses several other problems that were making certain games and apps misbehave.

Silent Hill F receives what NVIDIA describes as gaming stability improvements. Strange Brigade and Zombie Army 4: Dead War were crashing on exit whenever the NVIDIA App In-Game Overlay was active, and that has been resolved. Frame pacing in certain DX11 games while using Smooth Motion with G-SYNC enabled also gets an improvement, which should matter to anyone running older titles on a G-SYNC monitor with the Smooth Motion feature turned on.

On the general software side, RTX Dynamic Vibrance was incorrectly being applied to Wallpaper Engine, a background app that obviously has no use for a GPU color-enhancement feature aimed at games. That is now corrected. Paint.NET, the popular free image editor, was crashing on launch when NVIDIA Surround was enabled. That crash, tracked since issue number 5366537, is fixed as well.

Game Ready Titles

In addition to the bug sweep, the driver carries Game Ready certification for a few titles. Halo: Campaign Evolved and Gears of War: E-Day Multiplayer Beta both receive explicit support, alongside Mistfall Hunter. Game Ready designation from NVIDIA typically means the driver has been tested and optimized in coordination with the game’s release or a major update, covering DLSS and RTX technologies where applicable.

The Gears of War: E-Day mention is notable given that the multiplayer beta is still an ongoing event. Shipping a WHQL driver timed to an active beta is a fairly direct signal of how seriously NVIDIA is treating that title’s launch window.

Getting the Update

The 610.88 WHQL driver is available through NVIDIA’s standard channels. For RTX 50 series owners who have been running into Halo crashes since the 610.xx driver generation arrived, this is the release to grab. Path of Exile 2 players who put up with those DX12 session pauses for what has clearly been a while, based on the age of that bug tracking number, finally have their fix in a stable, certified package.

Frame pacing improvements in DX11 plus G-SYNC plus Smooth Motion is a fairly specific combination, but if that setup describes your rig, this driver has something concrete to offer you beyond the headline fixes.
