Intel Arc Driver 101.8974 WHQL Fixes GTA V Blur, Boosts Farming Sim 13%

Solid Gains for Integrated Graphics

Intel dropped driver version 101.8974 WHQL for its Arc GPU lineup on Monday, and the release notes carry a handful of meaningful performance numbers alongside a genuinely long bug-fix list. The headlining improvements are aimed squarely at owners of Core Ultra Series 3 processors running Arc-branded integrated graphics.

According to the release notes reported by TechPowerUp, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla picks up a 7% average FPS uplift at 1080p with medium settings and an 11% uplift at 1080p with high settings under DX12. Those are measured against the previous driver, version 31.0.101.8864. Farming Simulator 2022 does even better at medium settings, pulling a 13% average FPS gain at 1080p, with a 9% bump at high settings. Both titles run on DX12.

For people rocking Arc B-series discrete cards, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II gets a 5% average FPS improvement at 1080p on ultra settings. Modest, sure, but ultra settings on a demanding title are where every percentage point actually matters.

A Long List of Bug Fixes

The fix section is where this release really earns its keep. The blurry post-processing problem in GTA V Enhanced has been haunting Arc users for a while. Setting Post FX to Very High or Ultra would produce blurry items on screen, and the fix now covers the full range of Intel graphics hardware: Core Ultra Series 1, 2, and 3 iGPUs, Arc A-series discrete cards, and Arc B-series discrete cards.

Forza Horizon 6 had its own headache with reflections not rendering correctly, and that has also been resolved across the same broad GPU selection. Jurassic World Evolution 3 was flickering on water surfaces, which has been addressed for most of the lineup as well.

Minecraft Java users running third-party performance tools had a rougher problem to deal with. The game was crashing outright when CapFrameX or Riva Tuner Statistics Server were active. That crash is now fixed for Core Ultra Series 1, 2, and 3 iGPUs, plus Arc A-series and B-series discrete graphics. Anyone benchmarking or monitoring frame times on Arc hardware can go back to their usual workflow.

Arc B-series owners specifically get a fix for Endless Space 2, which was displaying visual corruption on the ship design interface. That is a pretty specific bug, but it is the kind of thing that makes a strategy game feel broken in a way that is hard to overlook.

Intel also notes fixes for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on both Core Ultra Series 3 and Arc B-series hardware, where certain scenes were delivering lower than expected performance.

Who Should Update

The scope of this driver is worth paying attention to. Intel is not just patching one product tier and moving on. The fix list spans integrated graphics going back to Core Ultra Series 1, all the way through the current B-series discrete cards. That kind of broad coverage is useful for a platform that has spread across a wide range of laptops and desktops over the past couple of years.

The performance gains on Core Ultra Series 3 iGPUs are particularly relevant for anyone using a thin-and-light laptop as their primary gaming machine. A 13% jump in Farming Simulator 2022 at medium settings is not going to convert a casual player into a farming devotee, but it does suggest Intel is doing real optimization work on the driver side rather than simply coasting on launch-day numbers.
