Nintendo Switch 2's Fall 2026 Lineup Takes Shape With Elden Ring, Fire Emblem, and More
From Elden Ring's Tarnished Edition to a new Fire Emblem exclusive, the Switch 2 is building out a serious fall slate. Here's what's coming and when.
The Library Is Getting Real
A new console is a promise. The games are the payoff. And based on what Nintendo has lined up for the second half of 2026, Switch 2 owners are about to have some very full weekends.
IGN published an updated rundown of upcoming Switch 2 releases through the rest of the year, and the list covers everything from a long-awaited FromSoftware port to a brand new Fire Emblem to a soccer anime game that is, honestly, exactly as specific as it sounds. Here is a look at what is on the way and what makes each release worth paying attention to.
Late August Gets the Ball Rolling
Things kick off August 27 with Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters, a sequel that lets players choose from 22 national teams and more than 110 playable characters. There is a singleplayer story mode following the rise of what IGN describes as the “king of sports anime,” complete with cutscenes, plus online multiplayer. It is a niche pick, but a confident one.
One day later, on August 28, comes the release that a lot of people have been waiting for. Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition brings FromSoftware’s GOTY-winning open world RPG to Nintendo hardware for the first time. The Switch 2 version includes two new starting classes and new armor sets, and according to IGN, those additions will also be available as an upgrade for players who already own the game on PC or other consoles. That is a nice gesture for anyone who has already put 200 hours into the Lands Between and would rather not start from scratch on a new platform.
It is also worth noting that FromSoftware’s next project, The Duskbloods, is confirmed as a Switch 2 exclusive, though IGN reports there is still no release window attached to it.
September Is Stacked
The fall stretch gets busy fast. On September 3, Switch 2 exclusive Orbitals arrives with what IGN describes as a clean retro anime art style and a co-op structure compared to Hazelight Studios games like Split Fiction and It Takes Two. IGN previewed the game hands-on and sounds enthusiastic about it.
September 4 brings NBA 2K27, launching simultaneously on Switch 2, PC, and other consoles. This year’s edition has three cover athletes split across editions: Victor Wembanyama on the Standard, Derrick Rose on the Ultra, and Caitlin Clark on the Deluxe. As IGN notes, Clark becomes the first WNBA player ever featured on an NBA 2K cover. That is a meaningful milestone for a franchise that has been running for decades.
On September 15, RuneScape: Dragonwilds comes to Switch 2. The open world crafting and survival game originally launched last year and is now making its way to Nintendo’s platform this fall.
Two days later, September 17 becomes something of a mini launch day. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is the headliner, a Switch 2 exclusive that Nintendo’s official listing describes as a competition set in the capital city of the Dagdan Empire, where fighters from across the land compete in the Heroic Games for the chance to win a single wish. The story follows four heroes tied to the fate of the world. IGN got a hands-on preview and dug into how the game balances those four characters. It is already available to preorder.
Also on September 17 is Trine 6: Together in Time, a cozy platformer that rounds out what is shaping up to be an unusually full release date.
What the Lineup Signals
The mix here is telling. Nintendo has Switch 2 exclusives at multiple price points and genres, from the tactical RPG depth of Fire Emblem to the co-op accessibility of Orbitals. Meanwhile, third-party support looks meaningfully stronger than it did in the original Switch’s early years. Getting Elden Ring at all, let alone with new content attached, would have seemed like a stretch on older Nintendo hardware.
The backward compatibility angle matters too. As IGN points out, Switch 2 owners also benefit from games still releasing on the original Switch. The library is not starting from zero, and that changes the calculus for anyone still on the fence about the new hardware.
When does Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition come out on Nintendo Switch 2?
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28, 2026. It includes two new starting classes and new armor sets, and those additions will also be available as an upgrade for existing owners on PC and other consoles.
What Switch 2 exclusive games are coming in fall 2026?
According to IGN, confirmed Switch 2 exclusives arriving in fall 2026 include Orbitals on September 3 and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave on September 17. FromSoftware's The Duskbloods is also confirmed as a Switch 2 exclusive, though no release date has been announced yet.
Who are the cover athletes for NBA 2K27?
NBA 2K27 features three cover athletes depending on edition: Victor Wembanyama on the Standard edition, Derrick Rose on the Ultra edition, and Caitlin Clark on the Deluxe edition. Clark marks the first time a WNBA player has appeared on an NBA 2K cover, according to IGN.
What is Orbitals on Switch 2?
Orbitals is a Switch 2 exclusive intergalactic co-op adventure, described by IGN as being in a similar vein to Hazelight Studios titles like Split Fiction and It Takes Two. It features a retro anime art style and is set to launch September 3, 2026.
