A Familiar Shade of Green, With a Steeper Price Tag

Xbox fans who grew up with that original hulking black and green console from 2001 have had a soft spot for translucent green ever since. Now, ahead of the brand’s 25th anniversary, a reliable leaker has put numbers to what that nostalgia trip will actually cost. According to Dealabs writer billbil-kun, who has built a strong track record on hardware and software leaks over the years, the X25 Limited Edition Xbox Series X is set to launch on November 27 and carry a price of €899.99 in Europe. The leaker estimates that will translate directly to $899.99 in the US.

For context, the standard Xbox Series X, which also comes with 1TB of storage and a disc drive, is currently priced at €799.99 in Europe following a recent price increase by Microsoft. That makes the limited edition bundle reportedly €100 pricier than the base model. The difference is primarily the inclusion of a limited edition green 25th anniversary controller, but the premium is real and worth noting for anyone already feeling the pinch from recent hardware price hikes.

Billbil-kun has not yet been able to confirm pricing for the UK or US with the same certainty, but the European figure offers a reasonable baseline for expectations.

The Controller Gets Its Own Release Date

Separate from the console bundle, the X25 anniversary controller will also be sold on its own. According to the same leak, that standalone peripheral hits shelves on October 20, about five weeks ahead of the console itself. Pricing is reported at $79.99 in the US, €79.99 in Europe, and £74.99 in the UK.

That earlier release window is interesting. It gives gift buyers and collectors a chance to pick up the controller ahead of the holiday rush, and positions it as its own product rather than just a bundle accessory.

What Xbox Has Said About the Console

The X25 Limited Edition Xbox Series X was first announced in June. The design centers on a translucent green casing, a deliberate callback to the special green edition of the original Xbox from 2001. Xbox’s next generation VP Jason Ronald described the thinking behind it at the time of the announcement.

“The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition respects our history, with the power and performance of the Xbox Series X, including 1 TB of storage, and a design that reflects where we’ve been and the community that’s been with us along the way,” Ronald said. He also noted that the iconic X logo lights up in green when you power the console on, which is meant as a nod to the original Xbox startup sequence, alongside the Xbox 25th Anniversary logo on the front of the unit.

The hardware specs are otherwise identical to the standard Series X. This is purely a cosmetic and commemorative release.

A Black Friday Launch With a Lot of Competition

Dropping a premium limited edition console on Black Friday is a calculated move. It puts the X25 on shelves during the biggest shopping weekend of the year, theoretically maximizing visibility and foot traffic. But it also means it will be competing directly with every other sale and deal hitting stores that same day.

At a reported $899.99, this is not a deal console. It is a collector’s item aimed at longtime fans who want a piece of the brand’s history sitting under their TV. Whether that audience shows up in force, especially after a period when Xbox hardware sales have been under pressure according to recent reporting from VGC, is the real question heading into the holidays.
