Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has been out for only a matter of days, and the datamining community has already been busy. Notable group X0XLEAK went digging through the game’s files and surfaced five character names they believe could point to future playable fighters: Doctor Strange, Wasp, Gambit, The Thing, and Daredevil. The group was careful to frame the finds as “possible prototype/future characters” that are “subject to change,” so nothing here is a guarantee. Still, names found in a game’s data rarely show up by accident.

The discovery landed alongside a word of caution from another well-known dataminer, Ryn (WistfulHopes on social media), who noted that Arc System Works has done a notably thorough job locking down Tokon’s files compared to past projects. She said she couldn’t find much in the way of upcoming costumes or DLC spoilers, attributing the sparse results to the developer’s cleanup efforts. What she did find, though, was assets pointing to a future battle pass. Her summary: “get ready.”

The Roster Debate

The reaction on social media has been, predictably, complicated. A significant chunk of players pointed out that four of the five reported characters, Doctor Strange, Gambit, The Thing, and Daredevil, are already playable in Marvel Rivals, the team-based shooter that has dominated Marvel gaming conversations over the past year. The implication being that if Tokon is pulling from the same well, it loses some of the novelty factor that has helped it stand apart.

Wasp, by that logic, is the one name on the list generating genuine excitement. She hasn’t been a staple of recent Marvel games, and a fighting game in the Arc System Works style could be a genuinely interesting fit for her kit.

To be fair to Tokon, its current roster has not been playing it entirely safe. The game already features true villains like Carnage, Doctor Doom, and Green Goblin, and it gave Danger her first-ever fully playable role in a video game. That kind of specificity has earned the game some real goodwill among Marvel comics fans who’ve been waiting years to see more obscure picks get the spotlight. Adding five characters who also appear in a rival Marvel title would be a notable shift in that direction.

What We Actually Know About Future DLC

Aside from the datamined names, there is one confirmed piece of DLC news. During a panel at San Diego Comic Con this year, developers revealed that Phoenix Cyclops will be the next character joining the roster. He’ll arrive in Fall 2026 leading a team, though the identities of his teammates haven’t been announced. Given the Phoenix Force framing, speculation about who fills out that squad is already running hot.

The game itself has been received well, earning a 9 out of 10 from IGN reviewer Mitchell Saltzman despite a rocky PC launch. Stuttering issues plagued the Windows version at release, though Arc System Works moved quickly with a patch, and the mood around the game shifted considerably once that was out. Some observers blamed the anti-datamining protections baked into the PC build for contributing to those early performance problems, which makes Ryn’s note about the developer’s file-scrubbing skills a bit of a double-edged compliment.

For now, the five names from X0XLEAK’s report are best treated as rumors with a foundation rather than confirmed reveals. The difference between a prototype asset and a finished fighter on a release calendar can be enormous, and Arc System Works hasn’t commented. Phoenix Cyclops is the only guaranteed new face, and fall will come soon enough.
