Oblivion Remastered Hits No. 1 in UK Charts, Powered by Switch 2

A 98% Takeover

The UK physical games chart had one very clear story to tell this week. According to Nintendo Life, citing GfK data, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered climbed to number one on the strength of Switch 2 sales alone. Ninety-eight percent of the game’s physical copies sold in the UK went to Switch 2 owners. PS5 managed just one percent. Xbox Series barely registered.

That kind of platform split is genuinely unusual. Physical multiformat releases typically scatter sales more evenly, or at least more legibly, across platforms. For a remaster of a nearly twenty-year-old RPG to land at the top of the UK charts on the back of one console’s install base says something real about how Switch 2 owners are spending their money right now.

What Got Bumped

Oblivion’s rise knocked Pokémon Pokopia down to second and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream to third, though both titles actually moved up one spot from last week, as reported by Nintendo Life. They were beneficiaries of someone else’s stumble rather than victims of Oblivion’s surge.

The bigger story on the downside is Resident Evil Requiem. Last week’s chart-topper cratered all the way to 24th place. Its platform breakdown shows PS5 at 63%, Xbox Series at 20%, and Switch 2 at 17%, which suggests it was never a Nintendo-led title to begin with. The freefall is steep either way.

Mario Kart World holds at fourth, and Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced sits fifth. The new entry this week outside Oblivion’s debut is 007 First Light at sixth place, while Splatoon Raiders and Madden NFL 27 also appear as new or returning entries further down.

The Switch 2 Effect, Charted

Look at the platform breakdowns scattered through the top 40 and a pattern emerges. Pokémon Legends Z-A is almost evenly split, with Switch holding 51% and Switch 2 at 49%. Assassin’s Creed Shadows goes 57% PS5, 38% Switch 2, and just 5% Xbox Series. Animal Crossing: New Horizons, still charting after years, sits at 68% Switch and 32% Switch 2. Even Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition shows Switch 2 at 18% of its physical sales.

That last one is worth pausing on. Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2 is pulling a meaningful share of physical sales for a game that has been out for years on other platforms. Nintendo’s new hardware is clearly attracting players who want to catch up on a substantial backlog, not just buy the newest releases.

EA Sports FC 26 is the outlier in all of this. The football franchise still moves most copies on original Switch, at 43%, with PS5 at 26%, PS4 at 12%, and Switch 2 at just 11%. Sports games with established franchise audiences can be sticky that way.

Further Down the List

A few other names worth noting in the lower half of the top 40: Halo: Campaign Evolved is at 37th, Donkey Kong Bananza at 28th, and Star Fox makes an appearance at 38th. Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 sits at 30th. The Witcher III: Wild Hunt Complete Edition is at 11th, suggesting that game has found renewed interest, though without a platform breakdown it is hard to say where those copies are going.

The chart is compiled by GfK and covers physical UK sales only. Digital sales are not included, which means the real numbers for any of these titles are almost certainly higher, and the platform splits could look different with digital factored in. But for the physical market specifically, Switch 2 is doing the heavy lifting this week, and Oblivion Remastered is the game it chose to carry to the top.
