Four Heroes Up Front

With Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave arriving on September 17, Nintendo has been steadily introducing the cast ahead of launch. As reported by Nintendo Life, the game builds on the multi-protagonist format familiar from Three Houses, this time centering on four main characters rather than one.

First up is Cai, described as a lively boy motivated by love for his family who takes naturally to battlefield action. Dietrich is a foreign swordsman who, per Nintendo’s blurb shared on Nintendo Today, duels to slake his thirst and bathes foes in a deadly light with his blade. Leda is a dancer and musician who avoids counterattacks with ease and grace. Then there is Theodora, the dauntless queen of Saramis, whose unyielding resolve lets her rise to any challenge.

Four protagonists pulling in four different directions. That alone should keep team-building conversations lively.

A Deep Bench of Support Units

Beyond the main four, Nintendo has already unveiled thirteen support characters, and Nintendo Life has catalogued all of them. The roster covers a wide spread of archetypes, which is very much the Fire Emblem way.

On the tankier end, Buccar is a veteran guardian described as comparable to a demon bear for his resistance to enemy attacks, while Esmeralda is a young woman who wears even heavy armor lightly. Tobias, called the Lionheart of Saramis, is pitched as strong and tough with well-honed skills that can wreak havoc.

For players who prefer their units at range, the game offers two archers. Lilian is described as reliable and particularly effective against enemies who cannot counter, while Peter is a crack shot who uses Combat Arts to reach distant foes.

There are a couple of intriguing wildcards, too. Fabio is an enigmatic missionary skilled in dark magic whose techniques break the enemy’s will to fight. Sirocco, also enigmatic, is a bard who works with swords, magic, and a variety of weapons, which suggests some flexibility in how that unit gets deployed.

Tialla fills the tactical genius role, with skillful strategizing that lets her make the most of her allies’ abilities. Mu is the scrappy underdog of the bunch, described as inexperienced but high in overall potential, which in Fire Emblem terms usually means she will be worth the investment.

Rounding out the support roster are Bonaventure, a Saramisian mastermind who wields both blades and magic and knows the kingdom’s history and folklore; Lysander, a fast knight who excels at closing distance and striking first; Mikaela, a close-combat soldier who can read opponents and land hits with ease; and Ultand, described as fiercely kind and capable of both fighting foes and healing allies.

What the Roster Suggests

That is 17 characters confirmed with the game still six weeks out, and Nintendo Life notes the list will continue to grow in the coming days. Given how central roster management has been to modern Fire Emblem entries, having this much variety revealed pre-launch gives players a real head start on theorycrafting.

The Saramis connection across several characters, including Theodora, Bonaventure, Tobias, and Esmeralda, hints at a significant faction or kingdom at the center of the story. Whether Fortune’s Weave leans into political drama the way Three Houses did, or takes a different angle, is still an open question. But the character descriptions, small as they are, already suggest a cast with some texture to it.

Fortune’s Weave launches September 17 on Nintendo Switch 2.
