NTE's August Update Adds Beach Volleyball, Jet Skis, and a Drift Island

A Gacha Game That Will Not Slow Down

At this point, Hotta Studio might be running a personal experiment to see how much content one open world can hold before it collapses under its own weight. The Chinese developer behind NTE: Neverness to Everness has announced the game’s next PS5 update, due out August 19, and the list of new activities reads less like a patch note and more like a brochure for a resort that also happens to have street racing.

As reported by Push Square, the update brings jet ski races, a beach volleyball minigame, construction work minigames, and a brand new car-focused island to the urban open world. Two new playable characters, Zankou and Linko, are joining the gacha roster as well, each with unique combat kits and, once unlocked, new social interactions woven into the sandbox.

What the New Island Actually Looks Like

The new island is built entirely around vehicle play. Think hairpin bends and street races, with an Initial D style drift racing flavor running through all of it. According to Push Square, every collectible on the island is reachable by car, so players who want to do the whole thing without ever stepping out of a vehicle can absolutely do that. Exploration on foot remains an option, just not a requirement.

Jet skis, meanwhile, are being added as both a new race event and a purchasable item. They will also appear in a new blind box gacha alongside new outfits for Zankou, Linko, and several existing characters. Those outfits can alternatively be unlocked through gameplay or bought with in-game credit, giving players a few different paths to the same cosmetics.

Depth in the Minigames

The beach volleyball mode is not just a button-mashing distraction. Push Square notes it involves selecting partners and leveling up their individual skills through repeated play, adding genuine progression to what could have easily been a throwaway activity. Weekly tournaments have been added alongside it, awarding Fons, the game’s in-game currency.

Construction work offers another outlet for City Stamina, the resource tied to the sandbox’s city-building systems, through a set of minigames focused on developing the urban metropolis of Heathereau. It is a new layer on top of mechanics that were already fairly deep.

The fantasy RPG mode added in the previous update is also getting a combat-focused expansion, built around a ladder of progressively harder skirmishes. A new purchasable property that includes a garden for growing and selling crops rounds out the life-sim side of things. Other additions include a continuation of the main storyline involving The Scarlet Letter, a new bicycle available for purchase with in-game currency, and a random outfit toggle that cycles through costumes for characters with large wardrobes. Push Square’s editor also noted in the comments after publication that a Vampire Survivors-style minigame is part of the update as well.

Something Bigger on the Horizon

Hotta Studio apparently is not planning to decelerate. Push Square reports the team has already teased its next major update, arriving later in 2026, which will finally open the theme park location players have been able to see sitting on the horizon of the open world since the game launched. What minigames and activities will accompany it remains to be seen, but given the trajectory of these updates, guessing conservatively seems unwise.

NTE launched on PS5 as a free-to-play gacha with ambitious open-world ambitions, and updates like this one suggest Hotta Studio has found an audience willing to keep coming back for whatever comes next.
