The Road to Champions Shanghai Runs Through the Pacific

The VCT Pacific Stage 2 2026 is well underway, and with two spots at Champions Shanghai sitting at the finish line, the stakes could not be much higher. According to Dot Esports, the tournament spans from July 16 all the way to September 6, giving fans nearly two months of VALORANT action from one of the game’s most competitive regions.

Twelve teams were split into two groups for the opening phase, grinding through a single round-robin format where every match is a best-of-three. The group stage runs through August 9, and the results so far have already sorted out some clear frontrunners from the teams that will be fighting for their tournament lives in Play-Ins.

Early Standings Paint a Clear Picture

Gen.G came out of the gate looking dominant. They opened the tournament with a clean 2-0 sweep over ZETA DIVISION on July 16 and have continued to pile up wins since. Their record includes victories over Nongshim RedForce, RRQ, and GE, with the only blemish being a loss to GE in a three-map thriller on July 31.

Paper Rex, always one of the most watchable teams in the Pacific, stumbled early with a 1-2 loss to T1 on July 18 before righting the ship. They went on to drop DFM, Team Secret, and DRX in subsequent weeks. DRX has had a rough run, dropping matches to Team Secret, PRX, and VARREL through the group stage.

T1 has been inconsistent. After beating PRX early, they fell to VARREL and then lost to DFM in a close three-map series on August 1. DFM, meanwhile, has quietly positioned themselves as a team nobody wants to face in the bracket after picking up wins over both T1 and VARREL.

GE beat RRQ on July 18 and FULL SENSE on July 23, though Nongshim RedForce bounced back to beat them on July 25. ZETA DIVISION lost to both RRQ and FULL SENSE before recovering with a win over FULL SENSE on July 30, and Nongshim RedForce returned the favor against ZETA a couple days later. The group stage wraps up with a final round of matches August 7 through 9, including Gen.G vs. FULL SENSE, DRX vs. T1, and VARREL vs. PRX.

Play-Ins and Playoffs: Who Joins the Fight

Once the group stage concludes, eight teams from the main event will be joined by four squads that earned their way in through regional Challengers circuits. As reported by Dot Esports, those Challenger qualifiers are Sharper Esports from Challengers SEA Split 2, QT DIG from Challengers Japan Finals, ONSIDE GAMING from Challengers Korea Split 2, and Xipto Esports. All four will enter a 12-team double-elimination bracket in Play-Ins running August 13 through 24.

The top four teams from each group advance directly to the Playoffs, which run from August 27 to September 6. Teams that finish higher in their group earn better starting positions in the bracket, so seeding still matters heading into that final group stage weekend.
