G2 and Evil Geniuses complete VCT Americas Stage 2 playoff field

The final day delivers, and two teams go home

The last day of VCT 2026: Americas Stage 2 play-ins had two playoff berths left and multiple teams still in the conversation. When the matches were done, G2 Esports and Evil Geniuses had claimed those spots, while ENVY and KRÜ Esports were eliminated, according to Dot Esports.

MIBR and FURIA had wrapped up their qualification a couple of hours earlier, so the final round of play-in action was essentially a bracket-closing ceremony with real stakes. EG and G2 showed up for it. ENVY and KRÜ did not.

KRÜ’s tournament had a genuine high point

The Argentine roster’s run deserves a moment of respect before it gets filed away. KRÜ knocked out Sentinels earlier in the bracket, sweeping them 2-0 on maps that reportedly included a punishing Ascent performance, as noted by Dot Esports. Sentinels are one of VALORANT’s most recognized franchises, and few observers would have predicted that result heading into the tournament.

But getting hot at the right moment and sustaining it are two different things. KRÜ couldn’t keep that level going into the matches that really mattered. They head home with a notable scalp but no playoff ticket.

Sentinels, meanwhile, are out entirely. That’s a striking result for a team that has been central to the Americas region’s identity since the game launched. No playoffs, no Champions Shanghai path through this route. As Dot Esports noted, past reputations haven’t been buying much in 2026.

G2 took the hard road

G2’s path to the playoffs was not clean. The team lost a series to FURIA 1-2 earlier in the stage, which forced them into the lower bracket and raised legitimate questions about whether they’d survive at all. Every match after that loss carried elimination pressure.

They survived anyway. Working through the lower bracket requires winning when there is no margin for error, and G2 did exactly that. The community had questions, the bracket had consequences, and the team answered both, per Dot Esports.

For a roster that spent a meaningful chunk of this stage playing from behind, reaching the playoffs is a result worth noting.

Champions Shanghai is where the global stage gets sorted out, and a run there from this bracket would be significant for any of these organizations.

For G2 specifically, the playoffs represent a reset button after a chaotic play-in run. Whether grinding through the lower bracket has the team sharp and battle-tested, or whether it has worn them down heading into tougher competition, is something the bracket itself will have to answer.
