The International 2026 is underway. Sixteen of the world’s best Dota 2 teams descended on Shanghai, China today for what is shaping up to be one of the most storyline-rich TIs in recent memory. The group stage runs August 13 through 16, with the playoffs at the Oriental Sports Center scheduled for August 20 through 23.

According to Dot Esports, seven teams received direct invites from Valve, while nine additional squads earned their way in through regional qualifiers. The field includes familiar heavyweights alongside some freshly rebranded organizations, giving the bracket a mix of proven pedigree and new energy.

Falcons Are Chasing Something Rare

Defending champions Team Falcons entered TI 2026 with more on the line than just a repeat title. As reported by Dot Esports, the organization is chasing a place alongside OG, Team Spirit, and Team Liquid as two-time TI champions. That alone would be a significant achievement. But the individual stakes for a couple of Falcons players are even higher.

Carry Oliver “skiter” Lepko and captain-support Wu “Sneyking” Jingjun are both positioned to become the first players in Dota 2 history to lift the Aegis three times. Behind the scenes, coach Kurtis “Aui_2000” Ling is pursuing a fourth personal championship, which would be his third as a coach. The Falcons roster also features Malr1ne, ATF, and Cr1t- rounding out the five.

Falcons opened their group stage campaign today with a 2-1 win over LGD Gaming, per the Dot Esports standings tracker. A promising start, though the field is not making things easy.

A Stacked and Complicated Bracket

The competition around Falcons is legitimate. TEAM VISION, also known as PARIVISION, opened the group stage 2-1 over Team Resilience and sit at 1-0 alongside the defending champs. Iron Wing, the organization formed after acquiring the roster of Tundra Esports and previously known as 1win Team, swept Nigma Galaxy 2-0 to open play. BoomBoys, the team operating under the BetBoom Team identity, also went 2-0 against OG in an opening round result that will sting for the two-time TI winners.

On the other side of the early ledger, Nigma Galaxy, OG, LGD Gaming, and Team Resilience all sit at 0-1 after round one.

Several high-profile matchups had not yet been played at the time of publishing, including Team Spirit versus Xtreme Gaming and Team Liquid versus Vici Gaming. Team Spirit’s roster features Yatoro, Larl, and Collapse, three players who helped the organization win TI 10. Xtreme Gaming brings carry Ame, long known in the community as the “Uncrowned King” for his dominant performances that have never quite translated into an Aegis.

How the Tournament Is Structured

All 16 teams compete through a group stage format before the top finishers advance to the single-elimination playoffs. The Main Event runs four days at the Oriental Sports Center, culminating in the grand finals on August 23.

With Falcons looking sharp early, Xtreme Gaming’s Ame still hunting his first Aegis, and a handful of rebranded rosters looking to prove their new identities, TI 2026 has the ingredients for ten days of genuinely compelling Dota.
