In their place, Brazilian squad paiN have been called up to compete at the $1.1 million event.

The timing stings. BetBoom currently sit inside the top 12 of the VRS and are coming off what HLTV described as an impressive playoff run at the Cologne Major. This was supposed to be a chance to build on that momentum. Instead, they watch from the sidelines as another tournament slot slips away.

This is far from the first time the organization has run into this wall. Earlier in the year, Artem ‘ArtFr0st’ Kharitonov and Daniil ‘d1Ledez’ Kustov were both benched while waiting on visa news. Then, at the Major itself, BetBoom had to compete without Pavel ‘S1ren’ Ogloblin. As HLTV noted in reporting the Porto news, travel problems have hindered the team all year. The pattern is hard to ignore.

At least there is something on the calendar to salvage the situation. According to HLTV, BetBoom will have FISSURE Playground 3 as an opportunity to recoup VRS points, with that event beginning just two days after BLAST Open Porto concludes.

For paiN, none of that background drama is really their problem to worry about. The Brazilian side are stepping in as the highest-seeded closed qualifier runner-up, which means they have earned their right to be in the conversation even if the pathway here was unexpected.
