Malta Hosts a Full Day of Quarter-Final Mayhem

The BLAST Bounty Season 2 Finals got its LAN stage underway in Malta on July 30, with eight teams competing in the quarter-finals for a spot in the next round. As covered by HLTV’s live updates, the day produced a relentless string of clutch rounds, multi-overtime drama, and at least one result that will raise some eyebrows.

3DMAX, one of the higher-profile names entering the bracket, fell to GLAWKS. Before that result came through, 3DMAX had been doing some damage of their own, bullying PR on the B side to lead at halftime in an earlier match. The GLAWKS loss, though, was the headline.

torzsi and the MOUZ Nuke Odyssey

The match that dominated the update feed involved MOUZ and a Nuke game that stretched all the way into triple overtime. HLTV’s live blog, written by Nohte, documented nearly every swing of momentum.

MOUZ’s torzsi was the standout performer across the board. He tied the score with a triple kill, then denied misutaaa’s 1v3 attempt to force overtime. When xertioN literally fell to his death mid-round, it was xelex who saved MOUZ with a 1v2. The two players kept trading moments like that for what felt like an eternity.

On the other side, Maka was doing everything possible to keep MOUZ’s opponents alive. His Dualies 4k ripped apart a MOUZ Ramp hit. He and Graviti clawed back from a 2v5 deficit to stay in the game. Then, just when MOUZ seemed to build momentum in the CT half of the third overtime off an xelex 4k, Maka answered with another 1v2.

It was xelex who eventually ended it, winning Nuke with a 1v3 that HLTV’s update described as embarrassing Graviti. That is a rough way to have a map closed out against you.

donk Reminds Everyone Who He Is

Elsewhere in the bracket, donk was doing donk things. He locked down B with a pistol quad kill, got a double in a 2v2 situation to secure the 11th round, and then clutched a 1v1 to win his team’s match outright. Jorko contributed too, winning a 1v2 in A defense and at one point celebrating a 1v1 win with a noisemaker, which is a very specific kind of confidence.

Lucky also had a strong showing, hitting a perfectly timed peek to line up a 1v2 and then clinching a second pistol round with two clean taps, described by HLTV as “crisp.”

misutaaa and PR Keep Things Interesting

The French veteran misutaaa found his own moments to shine, including a 1v2 clutch paired with a 3k that effectively stole a round off a low buy. PR’s own player came through with a 1v2 to complete a 4k in a 2v4 situation, extending a match that clearly had no interest in ending quietly.

Kursy added a 4k and 1v2 of his own, converting a round built around a saved AK and four USPs, which is the kind of resource management that makes team economists very happy.

HLTV’s live blog also posed the question heading into the bracket: could Team Liquid pull off another upset? The source material does not provide a result for that match, so that one is still worth tracking as the tournament moves into its next stage.

With the quarter-finals now settled, the BLAST Bounty Season 2 Finals in Malta will move forward with a shorter field and, if the first day was any indication, no shortage of overtime rounds to come.
