Mattel's $324 Xbox Collector Set Has Halo and Morrowind Minifigs

Twenty-Five Years Later, the Duke Gets a Second Life

The original Xbox turns 25 this year, and Mattel is marking the occasion in the most wonderfully extra way possible. The toy company has revealed a 3,509-piece Xbox Collector Building Set that recreates Microsoft’s first console in brick form, complete with its oversized Duke controller. According to Dexerto, the set is priced at $324 and is available to pre-order now, with shipping on or before October 16, 2026.

Built at 1:1 scale, the finished model keeps faithful to the console’s original look. The large green Xbox logo is there, the front controller ports are there, and the whole thing carries that distinctive black-and-green design that sat under millions of TVs in the early 2000s. The controller is fully buildable as well, right down to working buttons.

Three Tiny Worlds Inside One Big Box

Here is where the set earns its asking price, at least in spirit. Rather than just being a static display piece, the brick-built Xbox actually opens up to reveal three miniature dioramas tucked inside, each themed around a game from the console’s early era.

As reported by Dexerto, those three games are Halo, Psychonauts, and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Each diorama slots neatly inside the console and includes NanoWorld figures representing characters from the respective titles. The Halo section puts Master Chief in the middle of a fight against the Flood. The Psychonauts scene features protagonist Raz. And Morrowind gets its own tiny corner of Vvardenfell, complete with a figure of Dagoth Ur, the antagonist from Bethesda’s classic 2002 RPG.

It is a genuinely thoughtful selection. Halo is the obvious choice, the game that essentially sold the original Xbox as a platform. But including Psychonauts, Tim Schafer’s cult platformer that launched on the original Xbox back in 2005, and Morrowind, which many players first experienced on Microsoft’s console, shows some real care for that specific era of gaming.

Buttons That Do Something

The Duke controller is not just decorative either. According to Dexerto, pressing its buttons triggers different light and sound effects, with the response changing depending on which game the user has selected. It is a small touch that keeps the set interactive rather than purely ornamental.

Mattel describes the set as ideal for collectors, which makes sense given the price point. At $324, the brick-built Xbox actually costs more than the real console did at launch in 2001. Whether that feels reasonable probably depends on how much the original Xbox means to you personally, and how much shelf space you have available.

A Crowded Shelf for Retro Console Fans

This release lands in increasingly busy territory. Dexerto noted in related coverage that Lego has a retro Sega Genesis set in the works, that a Lego PlayStation set has been leaked for late 2026, and that a $200 Donkey Kong Lego arcade machine with moving barrels has also surfaced. Brick-built nostalgia for gaming hardware is clearly having a moment, and publishers and toy companies are responding accordingly.

For fans of that first Xbox generation, though, this particular set has something the others do not: Dagoth Ur rendered in tiny plastic form. For a certain subset of Elder Scrolls devotees, that detail alone might justify the pre-order.
