KFC Singapore Goes All-In on Pokemon with Charizard Jacket and Gaming Chopsticks
Every KFC in Singapore is now a Pokemon Go stop, and a Charizard evolution jacket is just one piece of a sprawling two-wave merch rollout running through late September.
Every KFC in Singapore Is Now a Pokemon Destination
KFC has turned all 71 of its Singapore restaurants into Pokemon Go waypoints as part of a sweeping branded promotion called The Ultimate Launch by KFC. The campaign kicked off on August 19 and runs through September 29, with each location designated as either a PokeStop or a Gym. Players can collect items and participate in battles just by showing up for a Zinger. KFC’s official campaign website includes a map of all participating locations, which should make trip planning very easy for any trainer who happens to also want fried chicken.
Five restaurants went further than a simple in-app pin. Each received a physical makeover tied to a different Pokemon type. KFC NEX represents Water, JEM is Fire, Kallang is Electric, Compass One is Ghost and Jurong Point is Grass. It is a small detail, but it adds texture to what could have been a purely transactional promotion.
Two Waves of Merch, One Very Good Jacket
The merchandise rollout is split into two drops, and the gap between them is doing some real work in terms of building anticipation.
The first wave launched alongside the August 19 kickoff. Reversible Poke Ball pouches, priced at S$14.95 each, are the headline item. Each one starts out looking like a standard Poke Ball but can be turned inside out to reveal one of four designs: Pikachu, Eevee, Mew or Snorlax. Customers cannot pick their design, which is either an annoying inconvenience or a genuinely fun lottery depending on your tolerance for blind packaging. The pouches are available with a Japanese Nanban Zinger or Chicken Bites Box purchase.
The second wave on September 9 is the bigger one. According to CNA Lifestyle as cited by Dexerto, the centerpiece is a S$99 Pokemon Evolution Jacket showing Charmander, Charmeleon and Charizard across the back. Only five restaurants will carry it, and purchases are limited to one per customer, also requiring a Japanese Nanban Zinger or Chicken Bites Box. That combination of scarcity and a low-friction purchase trigger is a reliable formula, and the jacket itself looks like something people will actually want to wear outside of a fast food context.
Rounding out the September 9 lineup: a 23cm Poke Ball storage bucket for S$12.95, Pikachu and Gengar gaming chopsticks for S$15.95, and a pair of Pikachu car neck pillows for S$32.95. The chopsticks carry their own logistical wrinkle. Per the report, they will only be available through delivery orders, not in-store, which is a choice that will either feel clever or deeply annoying depending on where you live relative to a KFC.
Pokemon Keeps Finding New Places to Show Up
This promotion sits alongside a broader pattern of Pokemon food crossovers making news this year. Krispy Kreme has offered free donuts to customers wearing Pokemon merchandise, and McDonald’s ran a Pokemon collaboration that included specific anti-scalping measures on its collectibles. The franchise has always had a retail footprint, but the food industry angle has gotten notably more elaborate.
For Pokemon Go players in Singapore specifically, the KFC tie-in is genuinely functional, not just decorative. Having 71 restaurants mapped as active PokeStops or Gyms is a meaningful addition to the game’s real-world geography, and the type-themed restaurant makeovers give players a small reason to seek out specific locations rather than just the nearest one. The Gengar chopsticks being delivery-only, though, remains a logistical mystery worth pondering.
