A Career Mode That Grows With Its Community

EA FC 27 is doing something genuinely interesting with Career Mode. Rather than leaving the long-term experience entirely in the hands of its developers, EA is opening the door for players and content creators to build their own custom challenges and share them with the wider community.

The feature, called Creator Challenges, works through a dedicated portal accessible on the mobile app or PC. Players can design their own objectives, ranging from assembling a title-winning squad made up entirely of youth academy products to guiding a club through a promotion run on the hardest difficulty without spending a single transfer fee. Once a challenge is built, it gets a unique code that can be passed around to friends, communities, subreddits, Discord servers, or wherever fans tend to gather. Challenges that catch on could be selected by EA itself and added to the game for the full player base to find.

Senior Game Design Director Pete O’Donnell spoke about the feature at a preview event attended by Dexerto, and he was notably enthusiastic about what players might dream up outside of the studio’s own thinking. “We hope they’re going to create amazing challenges that are different from what we’re thinking,” he said. “Whether that’s creators promoting their challenges or some guy in his bedroom or on Reddit, and he gets 1,000 people playing it, we want to bring that in as well.”

That last part matters. There is a real feedback loop built into the system here, not just a submission box that disappears into a void.

Creator Partnerships Bring Exclusive Rewards

Beyond community-made content, EA confirmed it will partner with actual content creators for official Creator Challenge “takeovers.” These carry a little more weight than the standard shared challenges, because they come with exclusive in-game rewards, specifically kits themed around whichever streamer or personality designed the challenge, as reported by Dexerto.

This is a smart move for both sides. Creators get a tangible presence inside the game, with cosmetic rewards that carry their name into Career Mode saves. EA gets built-in promotion and a pipeline of challenges that feel fresh and community-adjacent without requiring the development team to generate every single one from scratch.

O’Donnell framed it as wanting creators to push outside the conventional boundaries of what the mode typically asks players to do, and that framing suggests EA is genuinely interested in challenges that feel weird or experimental rather than just harder versions of standard objectives.

Why This Could Actually Stick

Career Mode has always had a passionate base of players who construct their own unofficial rules to keep multi-season saves engaging, things like never signing players over a certain age, or only spending transfer fees generated through youth sales. Fan forums and YouTube channels have been running that kind of thing informally for years. Creator Challenges is essentially EA acknowledging that community and building a structure around it.

The fact that standout community challenges can be elevated into the official game gives the whole system some momentum. A well-designed challenge from a random player could end up in front of millions of people, which is a reasonable reason to put genuine thought into building one.

Whether the portal is easy enough to use, and whether EA’s curation is responsive enough to keep surfacing good content throughout the season, will ultimately determine how much traction this gets. But the underlying idea, giving the most creative part of the player base actual tools and a real path to recognition, is a worthwhile one.
